Assist Laurel with a House Fire

On April 30th, at approximately 2:30 AM, the Sharptown Fire Department was dispatched to assist the Laurel Fire Department with a house fire on West Street in Laurel. Engine Tanker 1402 and Truck 14 responded with a combined crew of nine firefighters. Upon arrival, crews assisted with fireground operations. The incident was brought under control, and units were cleared from the scene shortly after 4:00 AM. Additional pictures from Blind Baby Productions. 

 

Life Member and Fire Police Captain Herman English

It is with our deepest and sincere regrets to inform you that Life Member and Fire Police Captain Herman English has answered his last alarm on September 24, 2024. 

Herman has been a member of the Sharptown Fire Department for 58 years, joining in 1966. Herman has been a very active member of the department serving on the Board of Trustees for several years, and being the Chairman for many of them. Herman served on many committees throughout the years including being on the nominating committee every year since 2006. Herman joined the Sharptown Fire Department Fire Police in 1987. Herman has served as the Fire Police Captain for the last year. Herman was a valuable asset to the Sharptown Fire Department and will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Friday September 27th, from 12:00PM until 1:00PM at the Sharptown Firemen’s Memorial Building, with Funeral Services following. Internment will be at the Sharptown Firemen’s Cemetery.

Diving Training with Laurel Fire Department

On Sunday, 6/23. Sharptown Vol. Fire Dept. along with Laurel Fire Dept. and Delaware Scuba LLC participated in a dive/marine training at Cherry Beach Park in Sharptown. The current in the river was running hard while crews trained on different types of search patterns.
Congratulations to Damian Jones, Christina Jones, Justin Shockley and Travis White for completing their Advanced Open Water Certifications! Great job by everyone as always!

Sharptown Fire Dept. Alerted for a House Fire on Tower Hill Lane

At approx. 8:15PM, on June 13, Wicomico Central alerted Sharptown Fire Department (Station 14) along with Mardela Fire Department (Station 9), Hebron Fire Department (Station 5) and Laurel Fire Department (Station 81) of a house fire on Tower Hill Lane. A column of smoke could be seen from in town Sharptown and as far away as Hebron. Engine Tanker 14 arrived on scene with a house fully involved and fire through the roof. Assistant Chief Bowden took command and requested a tanker task force due to the size of the house. Additional tankers and engines were added from Delmar Fire Department (Station 74), Eldorado-Brookview Fire Department (Station 26), Seaford Fire Department (Station 87), Blade Fire Department (Station 71), and Vienna Fire Department (Station 11). Two 1 ¾” hand lines were initially put in service, quickly followed by two 2 ½” lines. Firefighters utilized these lines to put out the bulk of the fire. Truck 14 was then moved into position to utilize the master stream. Firefighters were on scene for approximately 7 hours. Hurlock Fire Department (Station 6) provided a standby crew in Sharptown while firefighters were on scene. Two family pets were lost in the fire. The fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshalls Office who has estimated the loss at one million dollars.

Members Graduating from Delaware State Fire School

The Sharptown Fire Department would like to congratulate members Matthew Bennett, Rob Ennis, Jeremy Watkins II, along with all of their class for graduating The Delaware State Fire Shool Spring Firefighter I and Firefighter II Acadamy. Great job Everyone! We’re proud of all you!

Training and Control Burn

On Sunday, November 12, Sharptown Vol. Fire Dept. with the assistance of Eldorado – Brookview Volunteer Fire Company, Mardela Springs Vol. Fire Company and Hebron Volunteer Fire Department conducted a training and control burn of a vacant house. Thanks to everyone that came out and participated.

 

Sharptown assist Mardela with Outside Fire

On August 20 at approx 4:30PM Sharptown Fire Department was alerted to assist Mardela with a outside fire on RT50 in Mardela. ET1402 responded and assisted with extinguishing the fire. Crews were on scene for approx 1.5 hours containing the fire. 

Sharptown Fire Dept assist Federalsburg Fire Department with Commercial Building Fire

On August 14 just before 10 Sharptown Fire Department was alerted to assist Ferderalsburg while they were on a Commercial building fire on Railroad Ave. Shortly after Engine Tanker 14 arrived to the Federalsburg Fire Department, we were requested to the scene to assist.  Stations assisting with the assignment Preston 200, Hurlock 6, Eldorado 26, Seaford 87, Blades 71, Bridgeville 72, Denton 300, East New Market 21, Easton 60, Trappe 30, Cordova 50, Greenwood 78, Cambridge RFC 1. Crews were on scene for several hours containing the fire. 

Sharptown assists Mardela with a house fire on Athol Rd.

On July 22, at approx. 2:30pm, Wicomico Central Alerted, Stations 9 Mardela, 5 Hebron, 14 Sharptown, 12 Westside of a house fire on Athol Rd. Crews arrived to find smoke coming through the eves. Once on scene, Asst. Chief Bowden established command, while Chief 14 took over operations. Crews were able to extricate 2 dogs and Mardela EMS transported them to the Pets ER in Salisbury.
