Firemen's Carnival
Ferris Wheel Logo. The carnival has been a function of the Sharptown Fire Department since it's inception. The first carnival was held at the location of State Street & Corporation Road in 1926. Mr's Molly Eskridge of Galestown Md. won the first car raffled at the carnival. In 1937 the Department purchased the Charlie Fletcher farm at public auction for $1500.00, plus paying off debt of $906.45 to Federal Land Bank, and $1800.00 to Federal Mortgage Corporation. This purchased approximately 51 acres. The Department set a plat from this purchase for the carnival grounds, and sold back to Charlie Fletcher approximately 37 acres. In August of that year the carnival was moved to that location. In 1990 the Department began the extensive and expensive task of upgrading the aging facilities at the carnival grounds. As of this date the only original building left from 1937 is the Bingo stand. With the upgrades of the buildings complete, the department is now focusing on the upgrade of the amusement rides.
